April 19, 6:00—8:00 pm CST: Introduction to Catholic Interpreting

Opportunity for working interpreters to become familiar with interpreting in Catholic settings - Professionalism and Etiquette. Interpreters will know the ABCs of professionalism, list several ways to prepare for interpreting Catholic Mass, and give examples of proper etiquette. (0.2 CEUs)

April 21, 6:00—8:00 pm CST: The Catholic Mass Explained

We will explore the history, structure, and ritual of the Catholic Mass. Interpreters will leave with an understanding of the history and know the significance of each part of Mass. (0.2 CEUs)

April 26, 6:00—8:00 pm CST: Frozen Text—Let’s Dive In (Part I): Introductory & Concluding Rites

We will dive into the challenges and demands of the Frozen Text in the Catholic Mass by exploring the Introductory and Concluding Rites. Interpreters will learn the purpose of the Rites and be able to identify the demands and learn controls for interpreting the frozen text. (0.2 CEUs)

April 28, 6:00—8:00 pm CST: Interpreting Scripture

We will go through the structure of the Liturgy of the Word including the First Reading, Responsorial Psalm, Second Reading, and Gospel. We will explain the purpose of these Readings, discuss challenges, learn strategies, and provide tools to help prepare for interpreting Scripture. (0.2 CEUs)

May 3, 6:00—8:00 pm CST: Frozen Text–Let’s Dive In (Part II): The Creed

We will go through the structure and theology of the Nicene Creed, breaking it down into manageable parts. Interpreters will understand the parts of the Nicene Creed, learn theologically accurate signs, and have an opportunity to practice interpreting this frozen text. (0.2 CEUs)

May 5, 6:00—8:00 pm CST: Frozen Text–Let’s Dive In (Part III): Liturgy of the Eucharist

In this workshop, we will discuss the format of the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the options for Eucharistic prayers, and interpreting examples of some of the frozen texts. Interpreters will leave with tools and resources to support building their skill set for interpreting Mass. (0.2 CEUs)
